Poopular Culture

Ouroboros Sigil
I awoke this morning, fresh from a deep dream sleep of some 5 ½ hours, with an afterimage of an Ouroboros sigil devouring its own tail. I had retired to bed a bit earlier than normal last night because I had been reading the mind-numbing and sleep-inducing postings of a tireless and tiresome chap on Wikiversity. And it occurred to me that my erstwhile correspondent, Abd ul-Rahman Lomax, writes not so much to learn but to spin tall tales of abduction — preposterous flights of fancy — which he then devours, much as the Ouroboros devours its own tail.

But the mind-numbing tales of Abd are lamentably devoid of spice, color, amusement, or redeeming cultural value, and yet this is also how he sustains himself, day after day, week after week, year after year, endlessly dining upon the effluvia of his own peculiar brand of poopular culture. And it occurred to me that this practice of re-ingesting one's own daily drivel was probably more toxic than nutritious, and that Abd could benefit from a whack on the side of the head, or a kick in the seat of the pants, lest he become hopelessly addlepated.

Wow, Moulton. You're a really mean person.

Is that your hypothesis? :)

Probably not, looks to me like it's an observation, not a theory. Has it occurred to you that, in addition to a certain level of mean spirit, you sound like a broken record?

No. It is a direct experimental report, in part, and a (leading) question of you, in part. Broken record, indeed. Open your eyes, Moulton, you lost contact with the real world some time back. You are getting plenty of reminders, but ... you are quite certain, it appears, that the problem is that everyone else is stupid, deluded, or even malevolent.

Normally, I wouldn't be this confrontive ("frank"). But you've earned this by how you communicate with others.

That's my hypothesis.

If that's your hypothesis, then that's your hypothesis.

Mean people suck. Being mean over the holidays is even worse.

Mean people got no reason to live.

Aw, they're just average. Or do you mean "median" or "mode"? What did you mean?

Have you falsified the null hypothesis?

Don't you be short with me, Mr. Lomax.

I get to do with you what you've done with others. Isn't this what you want? If not, why did you do it to them? Don't you know that what goes around comes around?

As to the long and short of it, I used to believe I was short. That's because I skipped several grades, so I was younger than my school peers. I was in my mid-thirties before I realized that I had eventually become taller than average.

I've now shrunk a little. I discovered more than a year ago that I'd become short with my kids, when I skipped a couple of days of a certain drug, I actually slapped one of them once. (Long story, oft told to mandated reporters, we don't hide anything, period). However, I'm neither taking the drug now, nor am I short with my kids. Something shifted. Maybe it's love. Maybe it's that I'm busy with you.

Growl, bark! Beware of the Dog! Attack my Human, I bite! Be nice, you'll be safe.

Why do you imagine I keep chanting, "Moar Song Parodies!"?

Methylphenidate is a treatment for ADHD. Is that the medication you are alluding to?

No, bupropion. I take about 25 mg. of methylphenidate daily. I've gone off the bupropion, and my ex says that I turn into a monster when I'm not taking it. (Well, not a monster, but maybe hair-trigger.) My fiance says, no, don't take it. Let's see, where shall I place my bet?

Tough choice, eh?

Oh! Bupropion.

That explains the seizures.

Tell her to give you a gezunta hug (squeezing hard) when you go off your rocker.

Nah. I used to take 400 mg per day of bupropion, I think it was. No visible effect to me. Others noticed perhaps, a lowered reactivity, not an enhanced one. 400 mg was the maximum recommended dose to avoid seizures. However, lately I'd been taking only 150 mg per day time-release.

Once I took a double dose accidentally. 800 mg. Not time-release, either. I felt a little jittery. Nothing else happened.

ah! as to squeezing hard, that's between her and me, eh? She knows Yiddish, by the way.

Does she recognize the expression, gezunta hug?

It's not a very common expression.
